What is Invisalign and how does it work?
What is Invisalign?
Invisible-aligning. Invisalign is a form of orthodontic treatment developed by Align Technology, Inc. that was founded in 1997. The treatment uses a set of aligners, specially tailor-made just for you, to be worn for approximately 2 weeks before you switch to the next set of aligners.
What are aligners?
Aligners are made of a transparent thermoplastic material uniquely developed for the Invisalign treatment, and tailor-made for every different individual. That means no two aligners are ever the same! You will be wearing many sets of aligners (upper and lower) for a specific duration based on your Clincheck video, ALL developed just for YOU, and YOU alone. Each aligner will make slight adjustments to your teeth position, a process that is mapped out in your Clincheck video. And best of all, it's transparent! No worries about people noticing then!
What's a clincheck? Is it related to teeth cleaning?
Nope! Clincheck video, is a video. It is developed by Align Technologies with the help of your orthodontist (our doctors!) to aid you in visualizing your treatment process. As the name suggests, it is literally a video where you may be able to view how your teeth will move overtime! It's like looking into the future! Although, just for your teeth positioning, not anything else.
Cool! But what if the future is wrong and my teeth doesn't follow the video?
No problem! We've got this covered. Through a process called "refinement", we are able to alter the clincheck video so that it follows how your teeth have moved. It is basically a fancy term for retaking an impression and sending it to Align Technologies to develop a new Clincheck video.
Hmm... Still not convinced. What's so good about Invisalign apart from the transparency and video of future-sight?
First of all, the transparency is a big deal. No one may even notice that you're wearing them. Okay next, the aligners are removable! Unlikes with braces, your have the flexibility to remove your aligners to eat and drink what you want during treatment. You can even remove to brush and floss so you can get that piece of meat that's stuck, out. Moving on, there are no metal brackets or wires that could irritate your mouth! No more painful ulcers or sores in the mouth! And no wires/brackets means no wire adjustments which finally means, shorter visits at the clinic. And last but not least, the future-sight. It is understated that you are able to actually see the results of your orthodontic treatment before even going for it.
